The reaction o f Cp'2ZrCl2 (1) (Cp' = C 5H 4M e) with L i(T H F )2P (SiM e3)2 yields the zirconoocene m onophosphido com plex Cp'2Z r(Cl){P(SiM e3)2} (2) in good yield. 2 reacts with diphenyl carbodiim ide with insertion o f the heterocum ulene into the Z r P bond to give Cp'22 r[N (P h )C {P (S iM e3)2}N (Ph)](C l) (3). 2 and 3 were characterized spectroscopically (IR, N M R ), and an X-ray structure determ ination was carried out on 1 and 3 (crystal data: 1, a = 6.803(3), b = 12.008(6), c = 15.480(12) Ä , space group P nm a (N o . 62), Z = 4, 1685 observed independent reflexions, R = 5.4% , 3, a = 9.210(7), b = 11.491(13), c = 31.279(15) Ä , ß = 95.32(4)°, space group P 2 xjn (N o. 14), Z = 4, 6408 observed independent reflexions, R = 6.2% ). The crystal structure o f 3 revealed //2-bonding (N ,N ') o f the phosphaguanidene ligand N (P h )C {P (S iM e3)2}N (P h )e to the Zr atom ( Z r N l 2.309(5) Ä , Z r N 2 2.348(5) Ä). The li gand can not be obtained from the reaction o f L i(T H F)2P (SiM e3)? with diphenylcarbodiim ide, which instead affords L i(T H F )N P h C {N (S iM e3)P h }P C {N (S iM e3)P h}N P h.

Relationship between intracellular pH and chloride in Xenopus oocytes expressing the chloride channel ClC-0.

During maturation of oocytes, Cl(-) conductance (G(Cl)) oscillates and intracellular pH (pH(i)) increases. Elevating pH(i) permits the protein synthesis essential to maturation. To examine whether changes in G(Cl) and pH(i) are coupled, the Cl(-) channel ClC-0 was heterologously expressed. Overexpressing ClC-0 elevates pH(i), decreases intracellular Cl(-) concentration ([Cl(-)](i)), and reduces...

The synthesis of, and characterization of the dynamic processes occurring in Pd(II) chelate complexes of 2-pyridyldiphenylphosphine.

Pd(II) complexes in which 2-pyridyldiphenylphosphine (Ph(2)Ppy) chelates the Pd(II) centre have been prepared and characterized by multinuclear NMR spectroscopy and by X-ray crystallographic analysis. trans-[Pd(kappa(1)-Ph(2)Ppy)(2)Cl(2)] is transformed into [Pd(kappa(2)-Ph(2)Ppy)(kappa(1)-Ph(2)Ppy)Cl]Cl by the addition of a few drops of methanol to dichloromethane solutions, and into [Pd(kappa...

Mechanisms of chloride transport in thymic lymphocytes.

This study examined mechanisms of Cl- transport in rat lymphocytes under a variety of conditions. Basal intracellular Cl- concentration ([Cl-]i) was not different between cells assayed in the presence of HCO3- or its absence (HEPES). Removal of external Cl- resulted in a fall in [Cl-]i and a rapid rise in intracellular pH (pH(i)). Both Cl- efflux and the rise in pH(i) were blocked by DIDS or re...

Acidic pH-activated Cl Current and Intracellular Ca Response in Human Keratinocytes.

The layers of keratinocytes form an acid mantle on the surface of the skin. Herein, we investigated the effects of acidic pH on the membrane current and [Ca(2+)](c) of human primary keratinocytes from foreskins and human keratinocyte cell line (HaCaT). Acidic extracellular pH (pH(e)</= 5.5) activated outwardly rectifying Cl(-) current (I(Cl,pH)) with slow kinetics of voltage-dependent activatio...

Cytosolic pH regulates G Cl through control of phosphorylation states of CFTR.

Our objective in this study was to determine the effect of changes in luminal and cytoplasmic pH on cystic fibrosis transmembrane regulator (CFTR) Cl- conductance ( G Cl). We monitored CFTR G Cl in the apical membranes of sweat ducts as reflected by Cl- diffusion potentials ( V Cl) and transepithelial conductance ( G Cl). We found that luminal pH (5.0-8.5) had little effect on the cAMP/ATP-acti...

Role of pH in a nitric oxide-dependent increase in cytosolic Cl- in retinal amacrine cells.

Nitric oxide (NO) synthase-expressing neurons are found throughout the vertebrate retina. Previous work by our laboratory has shown that NO can transiently convert inhibitory GABAergic synapses onto cultured retinal amacrine cells into excitatory synapses by releasing Cl(-) from an internal store in the postsynaptic cell. The mechanism underlying this Cl(-) release is currently unknown. Because...
